Grundon has been shortlisted in the Festival Supplier Awards 2024 for its work at two events this summer.
It provided waste management services at July’s Formula One British Grand Prix, at Silverstone; and at the Parklife Weekend Festival, held in August and organised by Aylesbury Town Council.
The outstanding results achieved at each event earned Grundon two finalist places in the Best Toilets/Waste Management category of the awards, which are now in their ninth year and were developed to recognise, reward and promote best practise in the outdoor event and festival sector.
Michelle Tayton, event director of the Festival Supplier Awards comments: “The quality of our shortlisted suppliers is outstanding, a welcome reminder of the excellence and professionalism that exists within the outdoor event and festival industry. We’re delighted that Grundon Waste Management has been recognised for its pursuit of excellence, given the tough competition in its field.”
At the Formula One British Grand Prix, Grundon introduced a number of innovative ideas, including 24/7 shift working to maximise recycling opportunities; having its first two electric waste vehicles on site daily to guarantee net zero waste collections; and a Grundon transport co-ordinator based in Silverstone’s control room.
Over 3,350 colour-coded bins and more than 80 large containers and compactors were supplied, with recycling figures rising from 6% in 2022 to 31.6% in 2023.
At the Parklife Weekend Festival, Grundon partnered with the Aylesbury Wombles, a local waste volunteer group, to maximise recycling opportunities.
Womble power ensured that 70.9% of waste was recycled, more than double the national average for events, and working with Grundon as waste managers ensured that all the carefully segregated waste was processed appropriately and effectively.
Grundon’s Steve Hill commented: “The fact that we have been recognised for successes at these two very different events demonstrates that, no matter how big or small, Grundon has the expertise to deliver excellence in recycling and help customers improve their sustainability too. Well done to everyone involved.”
With a focus on delivery, customer service and sustainable initiatives, the awards are judged by an esteemed panel of high profile industry experts, including Mark Currie, Royal Highland Show, John Rostron, Association of Independent Festivals and Liz Thompson, IMG.
The Awards will be announced at a ceremony and gala dinner at The Hurlingham Club in London on 25 January.
