Grant funding keeps community groups safe at Hounslow church

Grant funding of an essential new fire alarm system is enabling a much-loved Hounslow church to continue its work at the heart of the local community.

Hope Church Hounslow, based in Hounslow West, is home to a wide range of church and community groups and during the first six months of this year, its busy food bank helped feed over 3,500 people.

Faced with finding over £10,000 to install a new fire alarm, there were fears that unless the money could be raised, much of the church’s community work could be at risk.

As part of its commitment to local communities, Grundon stepped forward to donate £12,000, providing the grant via the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF).

Kirsti Santer, Head of Marketing & Communications at Grundon, recently visited the church together with Michelle Jones, Project Manager at Groundwork South, the community and environmental charity which distributes the Landfill tax monies on behalf of Grundon.

Kirsti said: ““It was an absolute pleasure to join the team of volunteers for the church’s weekly foodbank, spending time in their company gave us a vital first-hand perspective into what they do.

“It’s clear that Hope Church is an essential part of everyday life for so many local people and we are delighted to donate funding to help its vital work continue.”

Hope Church’s the Rev Claire Clarke, said: “We are so grateful for the support from Grundon and Groundwork South for the community work here in Hounslow West. We serve many guests who are struggling in our community and we couldn’t continue this work without the support of grant funders.”

Michelle added: “At Groundwork South, it’s always a privilege to visit the projects we help support and we were bowled over by the amazing teamwork and commitment of everyone at the church.”

Other activities in and around the church include running the country’s largest Kick Football Academy for boys and girls aged 7-18, a community gardening club, a project working with ex-offenders and a mother and toddler group.
