How We Do It...

We were among the first enterprises in our field to recognise and support the transition to more cost effective and environmentally acceptable waste collection and disposal strategies.

  • Our High Density Baling Plant near Heathrow was the first of its size and type in the world.
  • In 1990 we commissioned one of the world's most advanced high temperature clinical waste incinerators - meeting all existing EC pollution controls. The Plant has since been updated, to ensure compliance with newer and even more rigorous pollution controls.
  • We also spearheaded the Government-inspired shift away from Landfill to Waste Recycling and minimisation. Our cutting edge Materials Recovery Facilities have earned us the approval and custom of a number of high profile organisations with a similar commitment to recycling and environmental protection.

Our new £180 million Lakeside Energy from Waste plant at Colnbrook came into operation during 2010. It will process in excess of 410,000 tonnes per year of residual waste from businesses and local authorities. After powering itself it will export 34MW of electricity to the National Grid - enough to power c.50,000 homes. The Lakeside facility secures our industry-leading position at the forefront of 21st century innovation and investment.

The volume of waste produced in the UK in one hour would fill the Albert Hall.
